Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa.---The Cedar Crest College field hockey team finished the season tied for the most wins in a season at 10, they fell in a nail bitter as they looked to secure a berth in postseason, but fell to Neumann University, 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon.
"This was a really tough loss for us tonight," stated Head Coach
Kellina Yarrish. "However, our girls really left everything on the field. They have worked so incredibly hard this season. It was awesome to be in contention for a playoff spot. I'm so proud of every minute of hard work and passion these girls put into this season. It was really special and monumental."
The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but the Falcons responded with a goal of their own. Freshman midfielder
Mercedes Melo (Lehighton, Pa./Palmerton Area) inserted on a corner, found senior midfielder
Elizabeth Lamm (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) who passed to sophomore midfielder
Makenzie Kistler (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton),
Kistler lined up and fired beating the goalkeeper to the left to tie the game. Later, a penalty inside the shooting circle lined up
Lamm for a penalty stroke.
Lamm steadied herself, and on the whistle shot high to the left of the goalkeeper to take at 2-1 lead. The visiting team tied the game right before halftime.
The Falcons fell behind, 3-2, five minutes into the second half. The Falcons looked to recover on a penalty corner, the first shot was by
Kistler that was saved, freshman forward
Brice Gardner (Gardners, Pa./Biglerville ) had the follow up that just missed the left post. The Black and Yellow earned another penalty corner, this play ended with a shot by sophomore defender
Madison Bowen ( Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area Senior) who had her shot saved. With time running out Cedar Crest earned another penalty corner that sophomore defender
Alexx Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg Area) received to shoot but her shot was blocked as the Falcons fell, 3-2. This concludes the teams regular season schedule.
