Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Cedar Crest College volleyball team defeated Centenary University in three sets by scores of 25-10, 25-21 and 25-10 on Saturday afternoon. It was senior day for the Falcons, honoring
Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City).
In the first set, the Falcons jumped to an early 4-0 lead. Centenary struck back, putting themselves on the board for one point. Cedar Crest then went on an eight point rally scoring off of one kill a piece from freshman
Devyn Crowder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) and sophomore
Steph Barr (Unionville, CT/Sport and Medical Sciences Academy) and thre-e kills from
Schnaubelt, as well as gaining three service aces from
Crowder. Sophomore
Nicole Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) added a kill as gaining a service ace for the Falcons, bringing the score to 18-7. Cedar Crest scored another three points before a timeout was taken by Centenary. The final four points of the set were scored from capitalizing off of Cyclone errors.
The Falcons took advantage of Centenary errors early in the second set and gained a 5-2 lead.
Hill added two points from kills while
Crowder tallied one. The Falcons went on a five point rally, capitalizing from Cyclone errors.
Schnaubelt lifted the score 18-10 from a kill, assisted by freshman
Kailey Elrod (Annville, Pa./Palmyra Area). The Falcons and Cyclones then went point for point, with Cedar Crest capitalizing off of errors and freshman
Elyse Podgurski (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) adding a kill. The final point of the set was scored off of an attacking error from the Cyclones.
In the third and final set, the Falcons jumped to a 7-1 lead.
Hill scored the eighth point off of a kill and
Schnaubelt tallied the ninth point for the Falcons off of a service ace. The Falcons brought the lead to 14-5, scoring off of service aces and a kill from
Podgurski.
Schnaubelt and
Hill earned the 15th and 16th points for Cedar Crest, both off of kills. The Falcons had a four point rally, scoring three off of Centenary errors and adding a kill from
Elrod to bring the score to 23-9. The 24th point was scored by
Hill off of a kill. Assisted by
Crowder, sophomore
Jannelle Mohney (Elkton, Pa./Rising Sun) scored the final point of the match off of a kill.
The Falcons ended their season 17-6 overall and 6-4 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Freshman
Tiffany Hoppes (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) now holds second place for the most digs in a season. The team now has the most wins in a season in Cedar Crest volleyball history.
