Falcons Come Up Short Against CCNY

Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College women's basketball team dropped a non-conference match to the City College of New York by a score of 63-45 in Lees Hall Saturday afternoon.

Leading the Falcons in scoring was sophomore guard Sylera Weller (Lancaster, Pa./J.P . McCaskey), who finished the game with 18 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists. Weller also finished a perfect 6-6 from the foul line. Freshmen guards Khnaue Robinson (Newark, N.J./Great Oaks Legacy Charter) and Natasha Barber (Dallas, TX/Ranchview) each contributed eight points. Robinson also added five rebounds, two assists and a steal while Barber tacked on seven boards and three assists.

Sophomore guard Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) netted five points in the contest with five rebounds and dishing out three assists while sophomore forward Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic) added four points and tied for the team-high in rebounds with seven. Senior center Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff ) contributed six rebounds for the Falcons while scoring two points and recording three blocked shots.

The Falcons were close in the first quarter, playing the Beavers tough, yet still found themselves behind 13-8 through the first 10 minutes of play. In a hard fought second quarter, the Falcons tallied 12 points to CCNY's 13 and headed into the locker room trailing 26-20.

The second half is when the game got away from Cedar Crest and foul trouble came into play. City College scored 19 points in the third quarter to push their lead to 11 points over the Falcons heading to the final 10-minute period with the score 45-34. In the final quarter, Cedar Crest was unable to cut into the lead scoring 11 points to the Beavers' 18 points falling to a final score of 63-45

Cedar Crest will open the new year at CSAC opponent Keystone College on Wednesday, January 3, for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
