CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Team Awards were announced on today, Thursday, March 09. Cedar Crest was one of 124 squads that earned the recognition.
The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a minimum team grade point average of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year. Swarthmore achieved the top team GPA in the nation with a mark of 3.72 in the first semester. Mount Holyoke and Springfield each posted a GPA of 3.68, while Earlham came in at 3.65 and Misericordia and Simmons were each at 3.63 to complete the top five in team GPA in Division III.
"We have a very bright and young squad this year, who not only have raised the bar on the field, but off," commented second year Head Coach
Kellina Yarrish. " With may of our athletes studying difficult areas it is great to see them recognized for their hard work. As a coaching staff and department we emphasize the student, in student-athlete and what that fully embodies. They have accomplished so much this season and I am so proud of what they have done and I can't wait to see what the future holds for each of them."
