Volleyball Sweeps Bryn Athyn in Three Sets

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Cedar Crest College volleyball team beat non-conference Bryn Athyn in three sets on Saturday morning to improve to 5-1 on the season. The Falcons came out strong winning the first set 25-15, the second set 25-18 and taking the third set 25-12.

The Falcons jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first set, capitalizing off of the Lions' errors. To gain an eight point lead, freshmen Kailey Elrod (Annville, Pa./Palmyra Area) and Elyse Podgurski (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) had back to back kills. Sophomore Nicole Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) and senior Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) held the eight point lead 19-11. Elrod and Podgurski had kills to earn the 24th and 25th points to end the set. 

The second set began with the Falcons and Lions battling point-for-point before Cedar Crest broke away to take the lead 18-14 off of a service error by the Bryn Athyn. Freshman Devyn Crowder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) kept the lead for the Falcons 22-16 on a kill. Podgurski earned the 25th point off of a kill.

In the third set, the Falcons gained a 4-2 lead after a kill by Schnaubelt. Taking advantage of the Lions' errors, the Falcons jumped to a 19-9 lead. Crowder scored the 20th point on a kill. To end the set, sophomore Steph Barr (Unionville, CT/Sport and Medical Sciences Academy) notched the 24th point off of a kill and the 25th was earned off of an attack error by the Lions. 

Leading the Falcons in assists was Crowder with 18. Crowder also tallied seven kills, three digs, and one block. Freshman Tiffany Hoppes (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) was a leader for Cedar Crest with 20 digs. Hill had eight kills, two blocks and one ace. 

The Falcons finish their tri-match today against Sarah Lawrence College at 2:00 P.M.
