Volleyball Falls to Keystone

Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College volleyball team fell 3-1 against Colonial States Athletic Conference foe, Keystone College, on Thursday night. The Falcons lost the first two sets, both 25-19, before sending the match into a fourth set by beating the Giants 25-19 in the third. The Falcons ultimately lost the fourth set 25-14.

In the first set, the Falcons capitalized off of Keystone errors, earning the first three points of the match. Cedar Crest and Keystone went point-for-point with each other, before Keystone broke away to take the lead and take the first set.

The Giants jumped to an early lead in the second set before two kills by sophomore Nicole Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) put the Falcons on the board. Freshmen Elyse Podgurski (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) and Kailey Elrod (Annville, Pa./Palmyra Area) earned back to back kills, bringing the score to 10-6. Cedar Crest earned three more points, capitalizing off of Keystone errors. A service ace from sophomore Steph Barr (Unionville, CT/Sport and Medical Sciences Academy) brought the score to 24-19, but Keystone scored the final point to earn the set win.

The Falcons and Giants went point-for-point in the third set, until the Falcons rallied to score five points in a row, taking advantage of the Giant errors, making the score 4-10. Elrod scored 3 points in a row from two kills and one service ace. Keystone fought back to gain momentum, but ultimately fell 25-19 as Podgurski earned a kill and the Falcons capitalized off of an attacking error for the Giants.

In the fourth set, the Giants took an early 4-0 lead. A kill from senior Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) put the Falcons on the board, 4-1. Keystone held on to the lead and the final set 25-14, but Hill tallied two kills, Podgurski and freshman Devyn Crowder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) each had one.

The next match for the Falcons is on the road to take on CSAC opponent Rosemont College on September 23. The match is set to begin at 12:00 PM.
