Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Cedar Crest College volleyball team lost in three sets to Colonial States Athletic Conference foe Marywood University on Wednesday night. The Pacers took each set 25-23.
After going point-for-point in the first set, the Falcons scored six points in a row, taking advantage of Marywood errors and sophomore Steph Barr (Unionville, CT/Sport and Medical Sciences Academy) tallied three service aces, lifting the score 14-6. The Pacers added two points to the board before freshman Elyse Podgurski got a kill, keeping the Falcons in the lead 18-8. The Falcons and Pacers went point-for-point with a kill from Podgurski to tie the set 23-23. However, the Pacers ultimately took the first set 25-23.
The Falcons took an early 5-1 lead in the second set, capitalizing off of Pacer errors. Freshman Kailey Elrod scored the 13th and 14th points off of a kill and a service ace. However, Marywood rallied to score points of their own, going point-for-point with the Falcons. Sophomore Nicole Hill scored the 18th point for the Falcons off of a kill, bringing them just one point behind the Pacers. Podgurski tallied the 22nd point of the set, off of a kill assisted by Barr. The Pacers broke ahead and won the second set 25-23.
In the third and final set, the Pacers took an early lead. Scoring the sixth and seventh points was Barr off of service aces. Podgurski added the eighth point off of a kill. Freshman Devyn Crowder and Hill had back-to-back kills, scoring the tenth and 11th points for the Falcons. The Falcons capitalized off of Marywood errors, and went point-for-point with the Pacers. Scoring the 22nd and 23rd points for Cedar Crest was Podgurski and Elrod, but it was unfortunately not enough and the Pacers took the final set 25-23.
The Falcons are on the road for a tri-match on September 29 to take on non conference Purchase College and the College at Old Westbury. The first match is slated for 3:00 PM.
