Box Score 2 OLD WESTBURTY, N.Y.---The Cedar Crest College volleyball team headed to SUNY Old Westbury for a tri-match with the Panthers and Purchase College on Friday afternoon. The Falcons defeated Purchase in three sits, 25-17, 25-9, and 25-19.
They finished the day with another win after five sets with the host school by scores of 18-25, 19-25, 25-16, 25-15, and 16-14.
In the first set of match on the teams matched up, point-for-point, until the Falcons took a five point lead, 20-13. The five point run came from a service ace by senior outside hitter
Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City), opposing team errors and a kill by sophomore right side hitter/setter
Steph Barr (Unionville, CT/Sport and Medical Sciences Academy). Freshman outside hitter
Kailey Elrod (Annville, Pa./Palmyra Area) and middle/right side hitter
Elyse Podgurski (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made two kills to put the Falcons two points away from the win, and capitalized on errors to win the final two points of the set.
In set two, the Falcons went on a five point run taking a 6-1 lead. Sophomore middle hitter
Nicole Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) earned the team their first point with a kill, back-to-back errors gave Cedar Crest the next two points while
Schnaubelt and Hill earned kills. Another four point rally came later when freshman libero
Tiffany Hoppes (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) won the serve back with a kill,
Elrod served things up perfectly for two service aces while an error game the team a 10 point lead, 15-5.
Hoppes began the next rally with a service ace, another Hill kill came next, followed by a Purchase error, which led to a timeout. The next five points were split between errors, another service ace by
Hoppes, and the final two points of the match by sophomore
Jannelle Mohney (Elkton, Pa./Rising Sun) and
Hill.
In the third and final set, the Falcons jumped out to a six point lead, freshman setter
Devyn Crowder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) earned the first point,
Hoppes earned two services aces while
Schnaubelt earned a kill. The teams would go back and forth earning points with no more than a three point rally.Â
Schnaubelt and
Podgurski made a block to the 24th point with
Podgurski made a kill for the final point.
In the second match of the day,
Hill lead the attack with 13 kills, and four blocks while adding one service ace.
Schnaubelt had 11 kills and five digs while
Crowder had six kills, led in service aces with eight, 17 assists and 17 digs.
Barr paced the team with 21 assists, four kills, two service aces and 16 digs as
Hoppes had 33 digs, two service aces and two kills.
Elrod added five kills, one service ace, and 14 digs.
The Falcons head to Saint Joseph's College-Brooklyn tomorrow for another non-conference tri-match with their first match set for 11:00 a.m. against the Bears while playing the next match at 1:00 p.m. against College of Staten Island.
