Field Hockey Earns Win Over Bryn Athyn

Box Score BRYN ATHYN, Pa.---The Cedar Crest College field hockey team traveled to future conference opponent Bryn Athyn College on Wednesday night where the Falcons won their first game of the season in a shutout, 4-0.

"I'm so proud of the way the girls came together tonight. Everything we have been focusing on since our first competition, the girls put into play. It truly was a total team effort, and success," said Head Coach Kellina Yarrish. "It was great to have different goal scorers, and to see our defensive end stepping up and making things happen from the back. We are looking forward to our next road game this weekend."

The Black and Yellow earned a penalty corner that led to the first shot by sophomore defender Alexx Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg Area) went wide while the teams next shot was by sophomore midfielder Makenzie Kistler (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton) that hit the post and was cleared out. Freshman forward Mercedes Melo (Lehighton, Pa./Palmerton Area) inserted a corner for the Falcons finding freshman midfielder Annalise Unger (Burlington, VT /Rice Memorial ) who shot from the left side that deflected off the goalie for her first collegiate goal.

 The team earned another penalty corner that led to a penalty shot for the Falcons, senior midfielder Elizabeth Lamm (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) took the shot putting the team up 2-0 after the penalty stroke. The final goal before halftime was by senior midfielder Hannah Gouck (Kintnersville, PA/Palisades).

Freshman forward Ally Arabio (Egg Harbor, N.J./Egg Harbor ) had the first shot of the second half that was saved, later a penalty corner led to back-to-back shots by Kistler that were saved, but a follow-up shot by Melo that found the back of the goal. The team had eight more shots, seven of which were saved by the goalkeeper.

The next game for Cedar Crest is on Sunday, September 10 that is set to start at noon at Wells College.
