Unger scores in overtime to give Falcons the victory versus Manhattanville

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Field Hockey team comes out on top after overcoming two-goal deficit to claim the 3-2 victory over Manhattanville College in overtime on Sunday afternoon.

"It was such a great win for this team, they never gave up and played to the last whistle," exclaimed Head Coach Amber Auchenbach.

The Falcons improve to 5-7 on the year, but needed more than regulation to get the job done. It only took the Valiants three minutes to get on the board and would hold the lead into the second half.  Manhattanville would put another goal past the keeper in the 38th minute to push the deficit to 2-0.

Cedar Crest's junior Madison Bowen ( Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area Senior) who get the Falcons on the board in the 50th minute for her first goal of the season after tapping in a loose ball into the cage. Getting the equalizer was junior Alexx Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg Area), who blasted a shot off of a penalty corner that the keeper could not save and tied the game with 10 minutes remaining in regulation.

"Being able to convert on three penalty corners is something to be proud of," continued Auchenbach. "We've been able to earn corners all season, but not capitalize until today."

Forcing overtime, the Falcons would force a turnover and start driving up the field, and sophomore Annalise Unger (Burlington, Ver./Rice Memorial ) received a pass from freshman Serena Shuler (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) at the top of the circle off a penalty corner, and would score the game-winning goal to come from behind to defeat the Valiants, 3-2.

Junior goalkeeper Emma Ryan (Sterling, Va./Park View) turned in a great performance and earned her first win in cage this season. Ryan made 10 saves in the match to help lift the Falcons to victory.

The next game for the Field Hockey squad will be on Tuesday, October 16 when they return to the FalconPlex for a Colonial States Athletic Conference contest against the Bryn Athyn College Lions. First whistle is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
