ALLENTOWN, Pa --- The Cedar Crest Soccer team had to fight back from an early first half goal from Bryn Athyn to take down the Lions for third consecutive victory against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponents on Tuesday evening.
Â
"I am so proud of the effort we put forth tonight," stated Head Coach
Sarah Wolcott. "Bryn Athyn is a fast, athletic team, we were patient and composed, and we just played our game.
It took us a little bit to get comfortable, but once we started clicking our play was outstanding. There wasn't a single person who didn't contribute tonight."
Â
The Falcons, now 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the CSAC, allowed an early goal off a corner in the third minute of the match. In the 43
rd minute, sophomore
Adrianna Tennis (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove ) blasted a shot from the 18-yard box that was initially saved by the Lions keeper, but momentum carried it past her and bounced into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1 going into the half.
Â
Wolcott continues, "
Adrianna Tennis (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove ) gave such a great effort and gave us so much energy out of the middle and Kassie Miller came in and gave us the spark we needed to rise to a new level."
Â
About twenty-minutes into the second-half, freshman
Brittney Dunleavy (Auburn, Pa./Blue Mountain) broke free on the left side and sent a low cross into the box, and freshman
Tess Spitler (Owrigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) got a foot on it and shot it in between the goalie's legs for the game-winning goal. "
Tess Spitler's (Owrigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) attitude was just awesome and I could tell from the second she stepped on the field she wanted a goal. She was working for it. And the game winner came to her" added
Wolcott.
Â
Senior goalie
Morgan Maddock (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial High School) made one save in the game on the two shots that were on goal.
Maddock earns the victory tonight and improves to 8-3 this season.
Â
Cedar Crest completely outshot their opponents, 23-3 with shots on goal being 11-2. The Black and Yellow earned four corner kicks compared to Bryn Athyn's one.
Â
Cedar Crest will have a week to recover before returning to the FalconPlex on Wednesday, October 10 when they go head-to-head with Keystone College. First whistle is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
