Falcons Basketball drop first contest of 2018-19 campaign

NEW YORK, N.Y. --- The Cedar Crest College Basketball team had three score in double-figures in 51-41 season-opening loss to the City College of New York Saturday afternoon.
 
Leading the Falcons in scoring was freshman Joana Cainglet (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II), who score 15 points off of four three-pointers and three foul shots. Also netting double-digits was junior Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) who scored 11 points, four rebounds and assists while graduate student Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff ) added 10 points, six boards and a steal.
 
Four other Falcons contributed points in the contest, sophomore Natasha Barber (Dallas, TX/Ranchview) netted five points, an assist, rebound and block. Junior Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic) and sophomore Jada Garrett (Dallas, TX/Ranchview) each added four points each, Cabrera had three assists and a rebound while Garrett added four boards. Junior transfer Mackenzie Borger (Kresgeville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) added two points, two rebounds and an assist.
 
Cedar Crest scored 20 points off turnovers to CCNY's 22, with 18 points coming off the bench compared to the Beavers 27. The Falcons put up 24 points in the paint but allowed 30 by the opposition. The Black and Yellow outrebounded CCNY 41-40, shot 34.5% from field (20-58), 25% from behind the three-point line (5-20) and 50% at the foul line (6-12) in the loss.
 
Up next, Cedar Crest will have its home-opener on Wednesday, November 14 when the Falcons host Medgar Evers College in a non-conference contest. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM in Lees Gymnasium.
