Falcons claim first win of 2018-19 with 48-38 win over Medgar Evers

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Basketball team earned their first victory of the season with the 10-point win over the Medgar Evers College Cougars, 48-38, on Wednesday evening.
 
The Falcons bounce back from a loss to City College of New York from Saturday to defeat the Cougars and improve their record to 1-1.
 
The first quarter was in favor of Cedar Crest, taking the 12-8 lead into the second quarter, but saw themselves at a one-point deficit, 20-21, heading into the locker room. The Falcons doubled-up the Cougars in the third, scoring 12 to their 6, putting the Black and Yellow up 32-27. Cedar Crest would not surrender the lead for the remainder of the game and claim their first win of the season, 48-38.
 
Cedar Crest shot 33.3% from the floor and the foul line while shooting just 12% beyond the three-point arc. Leading the Black and Yellow in scoring was graduate student Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff ) that record a double-double with 19 points and 18 rebounds with also contributing eight blocks. Also finishing the game in double-digits was junior Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic), who posted 16 points, nine rebounds and team-high four assists and steals.
 
Freshman Joana Cainglet (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) and junior Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic) each nabbed three steals, with Cainglet adding nine rebounds, three points and an assist while Cabrera had four points, four boards and two assists. Also contributing tonight was sophomore Khnaue Robinson (Newark, N.J./Great Oaks Legacy Charter) who tossed in four points, two helpers and a rebound while Mackenzie Borger (Kresgeville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) put a shot through the net for her two points.
 
The Falcons will make the short trip to DeSales University this weekend, when they participate in the DeSales Tip-Off Tournament Saturday and Sunday, November 17-18. They open up against the host Bulldogs on Saturday beginning at 2:00 PM in Billera Hall. Cedar Crest will either play in the championship or consolation game on Sunday with the time to be determined.
