Balanced scoring attack gives Falcons victory in CSAC Opener versus Bryn Athyn

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest Basketball squad earned their second win of the season over Bryn Athyn College, 62-37 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action Wednesday night.
 
The Falcons improve to 2-5 on the year and are now 1-0 in the CSAC after the win over the Lions. The Black and Yellow netted 20 points in the opening period, holding Bryn Athyn to just seven points. Piling it on in the second quarter, Cedar Crest scored 17 points and held the Lions to single-digits again, allowing eight points, and went into the locker room with a commanding lead of 37-15. Turning in another solid quarter, the Falcons would outscore Bryn Athyn 14-10 before having the Lions post 12 points to the 11 made by the Black and Yellow, but the Falcons would claim the victory by a score of 62-37.
 
Three Falcons ended the game in double-figures, first was junior Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic), who turned a double-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and a steal. Having a career night was red-shirt freshman Jada Garrett (Dallas, TX/Ranchview), scoring 15 points, grabbing eight boards and two steals. Following Garrett was graduate student Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff ), who contributed 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots to round out the Falcons in double-figures.
 
Freshman Joana Cainglet (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) hit three 3-pointers for her nine points while recording three rebounds and dishing out two assists with another freshman, Tania Bryant (Willingboro, N.J./Doane Academy) netting a career-high eight points for the Black and Yellow. Also, making it into the scorebook was junior Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic), making one free throw, recording six boards, four helpers, a block and a steal.
 
The Falcons shot 39.3% from the floor, 30.4% behind the 3-point line at 61.1% from the charity stripe in the contest. The beat the Lions in points in the paint 24-22, scored 18 points off turnovers and the bench contributed 18 points in the win.
 
The Falcons will begin a five-game road trip, starting this Saturday, December 1, when they head to Baltimore to take on Notre Dame of Maryland in a CSAC matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM at Gator Court in the MBK Sports Complex.
