HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. --- The Cedar Crest Soccer team had their season come to an end in the 2018 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship game against Centenary University on Saturday afternoon.
Â
"This one stings, because we fought so hard", commented Head Coach
Sarah Wolcott. "We played our hearts out. Centenary is a good team, and we showed up and played some of the best soccer I've seen us play this season."
Â
The Falcons conclude the season with a final record of 13-4 and an 8-2 conference record to end the 2018 campaign, posting the best season in Cedar Crest College Soccer history.
Â
The game was scoreless for only 10 minutes before the Cyclones found the back of the net, scoring in the 11
th minute off a cross to the middle, and hesitation to get past the goalie. Centenary delivered the second goal of the game in the 90
th minute as the final seconds were running off the clock to put the game at its final, 2-0.
Â
"We had every chance to win today, but sometimes that's just the way the ball rolls in soccer. Our players should be so proud of their efforts and achievements of not just today, but for the entire season.", continued
Wolcott. "We were picked to finish 5th, and they decided during preseason that they were not a 5th place team, and worked to prove it to everyone. I couldn't be prouder of this squad."
Â
The Black and Yellow took 5 shots in the first half, then blasted 10 shots in the second half for 15 total shots and eight that went on the Centenary goalkeeper. Each squad recorded three corner kicks in the match.
Â
Senior goalkeeper
Morgan Maddock (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial High School) started in her final game as a Falcon, making six saves in the loss.
Â
Cedar Crest's season may not be over, as they await to hear if they will receive a bid to play in the Eastern College Athlete Conference (ECAC) Tournament. Stay tuned to all things Cedar Crest for more information in the next couple of day.
