First Half Effort Was Not Enough As Falcons Fall To Neumann

Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College women's basketball squad's first half effort was not enough, as the Falcons fell to Neumann University, 81-54, Saturday afternoon. The Falcons are now 3-19 overall and 2-13 in Colonial States Athletic Conference play.

Sophomore guard Sylera Weller (Lancaster, Pa./J.P . McCaskey) paced the Falcons, scoring 17 points, sinking 4 three-pointers, while grabbing seven rebounds and an assist. Sophomore guard Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) ended the contest with a double-double, netting 16 points and recording 10 rebounds. Cabrera also had a game-high of four assists and a steal in the game. Senior Center Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff ) finished the game with a team-high 14 boards and four blocked shots. Gregory added eight points while going a perfect 6-for-6 at the foul line.
Sophomore forward Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic) contributed seven points with two rebounds and an assist while freshman guard Natasha Barber (Dallas, TX/Ranchview) ended the game with four points and four rebounds. Senior forward Shemeca Thompson (Bridgeport, CT/Warren Harding) added five rebounds and two points for the Black and Yellow.

The opening quarter was well played and contested by both squads, but the Knights had the four-point edge after the first 10 minutes, by a score of 19-15. The Falcons fought hard in the 2nd quarter as well, scoring 17 points to Neumann's 21, but was still trailing by eight points heading into the intermission, 40-32.

Coming out of the locker room, the Black and Yellow netted 16 points, with Neumann scoring 28 points to put the score at 68-48, in favor of the Knights. Heading in the final quarter, both squads struggled to score, as the Falcons held the Knights to 13 points, but the Falcons could only muster 6 points to suffer a loss to Neumann, 81-54.


Cedar Crest will be at home on Tuesday, February 13 when the Falcons host the University of Valley Forge in a non-conference contest beginning at 7 pm.
