G. Cabrera Scores 23 Points in 1-Point Loss to Keystone

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College women's basketball team came up just short versus Keystone College, 49-48, in CSAC action at Lees Hall Thursday night. The Falcons now fall to 3-18 on the year and 2-12 in CSAC play.

Sophomore guard Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) paced the Falcons, scoring 23 points while grabbing six rebounds, three assists and a steal. Also scoring in double-figures was freshman guard Natasha Barber (Dallas, TX/Ranchview), who ended the contest with 11 points, two steals, an assist and a rebound. Sophomore guard Sylera Weller (Lancaster, Pa./J.P . McCaskey) ended the night with six points off of two three-point baskets, with a team-high five steals and collected five rebounds.
Senior center Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff ) contributed four points for the Falcons while bringing down six boards, a team-high four blocked shots and three assists. Senior forward Shemeca Thompson (Bridgeport, CT/Warren Harding) and sophomore forward Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic) each added two points each. Thompson had two steals and a rebound while V. Cabrera brought down a team-high eight rebounds for the Black and Yellow. Freshman guard Khnaue Robinson (Newark, N.J./Great Oaks Legacy Charter) ended the night with five rebounds, three steals a block and an assist.

The opening quarter was well played and contested by both squads, but the Giants had the one-point edge after the first 10 minutes, by a score of 12-11. The Falcons fought hard in the 2nd quarter and took a three point lead into half after scoring 15 points to Keystone's 11, with the score at 26-23.

Coming out of the locker room, the Black and Yellow netted 12 points, with Keystone scoring 12 points to put the score at 38-31, in favor of the Falcons. Heading in the final quarter, Cedar Crest struggled to score, as Cedar Crest scored their first bucket of the quarter until there was 5:50 remaining to push their lead to 40-38. Barber sunk a three-pointer with 3:19 remaining to tie it at 43, then Weller hit a three with 21 ticks on the clock to tie the game once again. Keystone would sink a free throw with eight seconds left and the Falcons could not get a shot off, as they fall to the Giants, 49-48


Cedar Crest will play at home for the remainder of the season, with a CSAC contest versus Neumann University Saturday, February 10 at 1 pm in Lees Hall.
