Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- The Cedar Crest College softball split their two games Wednesday afternoon, taking down Mary Baldwin University 18-4, then falling to Eureka College 7-1 to put the Black and Yellow at 3-3 this year.
The Falcons bats were alive in their first game of the day and Day 3 of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic with an 18-4 victory in 5 innings, then costly errors resulted in the 7-1 loss to Eureka College.
In game one, Cedar Crest would get 21 hits, led by senior outfielder
Jackie Gallagher (Fort Worth, TX/Keller Central ), who went 4-for-4, scoring four runs and driving in a run as well. Junior outfielder
Brittney Bonser (Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasent Valley) ended the game 3-for-4, and senior infielder
Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) went 3-for-5, each bringing in five RBIs.
Bonser crossed the plate three times while
Martinez scored twice. Graduated student
Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) started in the circle and gave up 4 earned runs on eight hits, striking out two and giving up a home run to improve to 2-1 this year.
The Falcons had only four hits in the 7-1 loss to Eureka in Game 2, with
Bonser, Gallagher, freshmen infielders
Patricia Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) and
Riley Tremblay (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) putting the ball in play with
Gallagher bringing in
Tremblay across the plate for Cedar Crest's only run. Sophomore pitcher
Breanna Young (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) pitched a complete game, having five earned runs, four strikeouts, and 10 hits allowed to fall to 1-2 on the year.
The Falcons return to action Thursday, March 8 as they will face SUNY Poly for the second time in this tournament and finish off the tournament with Medaille College with game times at 11:30 AM and 3:30 respectively.
