Dayton scores first collegiate goal as Falcons fall 3-1 to Wilkes

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Field Hockey team, now 0-4 this season, lost to Wilkes University 3-1 on Thursday evening.

"It was a good game and the team battled hard.," stated Head Coach Amber Auchenbach. "I am very proud that they were able to score first early on in the game."

The Falcons were the first to strike in the 8th minute, off the stick of freshman Deserea Dayton (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff), who scored her first collegiate goal of her career.

The Colonels scored two first-half goals in the 27th and 34th minutes, then added the third goal in the second half to defeat the Black and Yellow, 3-1. Cedar Crest scored their goal on only one shot that was on goal, where Wilkes took 29 shots that 16 were on target.

Junior Goalkeeper Cassandra Reijgers (Hollis, N.H./Hollis Brookline) started in her second consecutive game, making 13 saves on 16 shots on target. Reijgers received the loss in the match, now 0-2 on the year.

Auchenbach concluded, "With every game we are making improvements and preparing for conference play."

Cedar Crest will return home to the FalconPlex for their next game on Sunday, September 16, where they will host Wells College. First whistle scheduled for 2:00 PM.
