ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Soccer team fights back to score two goals in the last two minutes to claim the victory of SUNY Purchase College, 2-1, Wednesday evening.
"I am so incredibly proud of our team today... it's hard to put into words," exclaimed Head Coach
Sarah Wolcott. "They fought for what they knew they deserved. They didn't panic when we went down a goal. They dug deeper and pushed harder."
After a scoreless first half, the Falcons were getting chances but were unable to capitalize. Purchase went up 1-0 after a free kick goal that was slotted in the top right corner of the net with just over 15 minutes remaining. The Black and Yellow would find the equalizer off of a free kick taken by sophomore midfielder
Adrianna Tennis (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove ) that took a bounce through the box before freshman forward
Brittney Dunleavy (Auburn, Pa./Blue Mountain)Â kicked the ball passed the Panther's keeper with 2:43 remaining. T
ennis received an assist on the game winning goal from sophomore midfielder
Erika D'Angelo (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial )Â off of a corner kick that Tennis played short, and sent a pass into the 18-yard box that found
D'Angelo and she placed in the back of the net to seal the deal with forty-seconds remaining in regulation.
"Honestly, I felt like we dominated play... we just struggled to finish, but we finished when it mattered, continued
Wolcott. "Erika and Brittney scored goals off of beautifully placed balls from
Adrianna.
Starting in goal this evening was senior keeper
Morgan Maddock (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial High School), who stopped one of the two shots that were taken on goal by Purchase.
Maddock earned her third victory on the young season, putting her at 3-0.
The Falcons fired 18 shots tonight, with 12 being on goal and two finding the back of the net. The Panthers took just two shots, both on goal and one that got passed the keeper. Cedar Crest earned six corners while holding Purchase without a corner.
"Tonight, I can't just point out one or two people today. This win was a collective effort from the back line to the front and from the bench to the field." concluded
Wolcott.
The Falcons return to action this Saturday, September 8, when the team travels to Bryn Mawr College for a non-conference contest beginning at 11:00 AM.
