Borger's Career-Day not enough to lift Falcons over Cairn

LANGHORNE, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest Basketball team, after a hard-fought battle, dropped their second-straight Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest, 55-67 to Cairn University on Saturday morning.

"We played another great 30 minutes of Falcons' basketball," commented Head Coach Kristin Karat. "If we can figure out how to close out game, we are going to be tough to beat."

The Falcons slip to 4-13 overall and 3-5 in the CSAC conference. A close first quarter had the Black and Yellow down by two points, 11-13.  Back and forth affair in the second quarter, Cedar Crest scored 9 points to the Highlanders 13, had the Falcons trailing 20-27 at the half. A big third quarter, scoring 22 points, put the Black and Yellow within one point heading into the final frame, 42-43. Scoring 13 points in the fourth quarter, would not be enough to get past Cairn, who scored 24 points, to put the final score at 55-67.

Leading the Falcons in scoring was junior Mackenzie Borger (Kresgeville, Pa./Pleasant Valley), dropping a career-high 20 points, six rebounds, four assists and a block. "Mack is stepping into her own and it's awesome to see," added Coach Karat. Borger also went 8-10 from the free throw line. Recording a double-double in the contest was graduate student Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff ), scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 boards for the Black and Yellow. Missing double-digits by one point was freshman Joana Cainglet (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II), tossing in nine points, three steals and a rebound.

Sophomore Natasha Barber (Dallas, TX/Ranchview) netted six points for Cedar Crest, adding a rebound and a blocked shot. Sophomores Khnaue Robinson (Newark, N.J./Great Oaks Legacy Charter) and Jada Garrett (Dallas, TX/Ranchview) each contributed four points apiece. Robinson added two steals, two assists and two rebounds while Garrett contributed eight rebounds, five of them being offensive. Not scoring in the contest, but contributing in other areas was sophomore Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic). Cabrera grabbed five rebounds while the freshman Amiyah Peters (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) contributed a game-high five assists, two rebounds and a steal.
