BRYN ATHYN, Pa. --- Three Falcons finish in double-figures as Cedar Crest Basketball team earns the victory over Bryn Athyn, 56-53.
It's a nice feeling to get our first road win of the season," stated Head Coach
Kristin Karat. "Bryn Athyn has been playing well lately and I'm glad we came out on top."
The Falcons improve to 5-13 this season, 4-5 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) competition. A close first quarter had the Black and Yellow leading by three at the first break, 17-14. After a strong second period, scoring 17 points again, held the Lions to 8 points, taking a 12-point lead into the half, 34-22. A slow start to the second half, Cedar Crest would score 7 points to Bryn Athyn's 15, cutting into the lead, 41-37. A back and forth affair kept the game tight, but Cedar Crest would come out on top, defeating the Lions, 56-53.
Junior
Mackenzie Borger (Kresgeville, Pa./Pleasant Valley), graduated student
Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff ) and freshman
Joana Cainglet (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) were the three Falcons to end the game with double-digits in the scorer's column.
Borger lead the team with 17 points, seven rebounds, four steals, four assists and two blocks.
Gregory tossed in 12 points, brought down eight boards and a blocked shot while
Cainglet netted 11 points, hitting three 3-pointers, adding two rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Sophomore
Khnaue Robinson (Newark, N.J./Great Oaks Legacy Charter) finished just outside of double-figures, scoring nine points, swiping a team-high five steals and grabbing four rebounds. Three Falcons each scored two points apiece, sophomores
Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic) and
Jada Garrett (Dallas, TX/Ranchview), and freshman
Tania Bryant (Willingboro, N.J./Doane Academy).
Cabrera brought down 10 rebounds in the contest, along with three steals and an assist.
Bryant added four assists, a steal and one rebound as
Garret contributed three rebounds. Hitting one free throw from the charity stripe was sophomore
Natasha Barber (Dallas, TX/Ranchview), who also had two assists and a rebound.
"To be able to pull out a win over Bryn Athyn on the road was huge, I'm proud of this team," concluded
Coach Karat.
The Falcons will have an off day before picking right back up on Thursday, January 24 when they travel to Keystone College for a CSAC contest. The game is scheduled for 6:00 PM at Ace Spalding Arena in the Gambal Athletic Center
