Basketball Claims first victory of 2019 with CSAC win over Keystone

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest Basketball squad defeated Keystone College, 60-53 to start of the New Year with a win, and their first win over the Giants since February of 2011.
 
"We had a great week of practice leading into this game", commented Head Coach Kristin Karat, "We remember the outcome of last year's game where we lost by one on our home court and it was nice to get this one back."
 
The Falcons are now 3-10 this season after the win, and improve to 2-2 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
 
Posting a big first half, the Black and Yellow scored 19 first quarter points and put up 20 points in the second quarter to possess a 39-26 lead heading into the locker room. Keystone outscore Cedar Crest in the third, 9-15, setting the score at 48-41 going into the final quarter. The Falcons and Giants each netted 12 points in the fourth, as Cedar Crest comes out on top, 60-53 over Keystone.
 
Leading the Falcons in multiple statistical categories was junior Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic), tossing in 17 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals. "Geminii really stepped up and performed well for us today," added Karat, "we asked her to do a lot and she delivered for us."
 
Also scoring in double-figures was graduate student Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff ), who scored 14 points, four rebounds and two steals in the win. Junior Mackenzie Borger (Kresgeville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) put up eight points with an assist, a steal and one board.
 
Three different Falcons contributed six points each, sophomore Khnaue Robinson (Newark, N.J./Great Oaks Legacy Charter), freshman Joana Cainglet (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) and freshman Amiyah Peters (Plainville, Conn./Plainville). Robinson added three rebounds, one assist, a steal and a block while Cainglet earned four rebounds and two rebounds. Peters ended the game with three rebounds to go along with her six points.
 
Junior Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic) sunk a free throw and made one basket for her three points, going with her four rebounds and three assists. Sophomore Natasha Barber (Dallas, TX/Ranchview) recorded two steals and a rebound during the game as well. "Barber worked extremely hard off the bench today and contributed where we needed her," added Karat.
 
"Things clicked for us today and we saw a lot of good things happen. We're not exactly where we want to be at, but this game required a full-team effort and pushed us in the right direction." concluded Karat.
 
The Falcons will hit the road for their next game, heading to Wilson College for a CSAC contest on Tuesday, January 8. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 PM at Nelson Gymnasium in Chambersburg, Pa.
