ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College Soccer program improved to 9-4 and 5-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) after a balanced scoring attack led the Falcons to an 8-0 victory over the College of Saint Elizabeth on Wednesday night.
"This was a disciplined win," stated Head Coach
Sarah Wolcott. "Despite the conditions we were able to put together 90 minutes of good, collective soccer."
The Black and Yellow scored five goals in the first half, with the first goal coming from junior
Adrianna Tennis (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove), which was her 13th goal of the season, in the 5th minute after receiving a pass from
Daria Warner (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt).
Warner would send a pass across the box to
Brittney Dunleavy (Auburn, Pa./Blue Mountain) where she finished to put the Falcons up 2-0 after 15 minutes.
Warner scored her first of the game in the 30th minute off of a crossing pass from senior
Kelsey Kehm (Trappe, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), who was credited with an assist.
Warner then netted her second of the game and record-breaking goal in the 36th minute where she headed the ball over the hands of the keeper off of an entrance pass for
Tennis. That would conclude scoring for the first half, with the Falcons taking a 5-0 lead into the locker room.
To open the second half, it took just seven minutes for the Black and Yellow to extend their lead, with a goal being scored by junior
Rebecca Fox (Olean, N.Y./Olean) off of a crossing pass from sophomore
Kaitlyn Kozdron (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township). That goal by
Fox was her first of the season and
Kozdron's fifth assist on the year.
Kozdron would then score a goal of her own , assisted by
Kehm for her seventh assist of the year, for her fifth goal of the season. The last goal of the game came in the 82nd minute, when junior
Kara Brownlie (Southampton, Pa./Abington Friends School) scored the first-collegiate goal of her career.
Brownlie attempted a shot from close to 35-yards out that skipped past the hands of the Eagles goalkeeper and into the back of the net in the 82nd minute. Cedar Crest would claim their sixth-straight victory, winning 8-0.
"I have to give it to St Elizabeth," continued
Coach Wolcott, "They worked and pushed for all 90 minutes.
Tonight's win was full of milestones for the Soccer program, the first one was that junior forward
Daria Warner (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) broke multiple school records.
Warner recorded two assists and scored a goal all before the 30th minute which broke the school record for most points in a season. Then, in the 35th minute,
Warner headed in a shot past the keeper that broke the Cedar Crest record for Goals in a Season, currently with 18 goals.
"I'm so happy for Daria for breaking the school record for goals in a season. She has worked so incredibly hard this season and tonight was no different. She did a good job of staying composed and finishing her chances," concluded
Coach Wolcott.
Cedar Crest blasted 32 shots in the contest with half of their shots (16) going on goal, while Saint Elizabeth was able to get one shot that went on goal. Freshman goalkeeper,
Lauren Makely (Lake Grove/Sachem North), made the save as she received the win in the decision, posting her sixth shutout of the season and improved to 9-4 on the year. The Falcons also earned 17 corner kicks in the match to the Eagles one.
Up next, the Falcons will return to action on Saturday, October 19 when they host Notre Dame of Maryland in CSAC action. Cedar Crest will honor their three graduating seniors prior to the start of the match. First-touch is slated for 1:00 PM on the FalconPlex.
