Field Hockey stuns William Paterson in overtime at the FalconPlex

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College Field Hockey program took down William Paterson University for the first-time in school history,2-1, after an overtime goal lifted the Falcons over the Pioneers. Cedar Crest improves to 6-9 on the year, matching last season's win total.

The Black and Yellow outshot the visiting Pioneers, 13-8 and had more shots on cage by a margin of 8-4. Cedar Crest also earned more penalty corners in the contest, reaching double-digits with 11 to William Paterson's seven.

William Paterson would strike first, with a shot that went past the Falcons goalkeeper in the 8th minute, to put Cedar Crest behind in the first quarter, 1-0. The second quarter saw a total of three shots, two for the Pioneers and just one for the Falcons, but all three shots were saved and the Black and Yellow would head into halftime trailing 1-0.

Cedar Crest came out to start the second half and would need just two minutes to tie the game. Freshman Amber Cieri (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) would take a reverse shot that found its way to the back of the cage in the 32nd minute and knotted the game at 1-1. After taking five shots in the fourth quarter, the game would remain tied at 1-1, and we would head into overtime at the FalconPlex. After William Paterson attempted a shot and was saved, the Falcons would dribble up field and take two shots of their own. Cieri took a shot that bounced off the keeper's pads and would get a rebound and took another shot that beat the Pioneer's goalie for the game-winning goal to give Cedar Crest the 2-1 victory over William Paterson.

Senior Cassandra Reijgers (Hollis, N.H./Hollis Brookline) started in cage for the Falcons, facing eight shot, made three saves and allowed on goal in the game. Reijgers earned the victory in the decision and her record improves to 5-7 this season.

Up next, the Falcons will host their final home game of the regular season, when they welcome Wilson College to Allentown for a CSAC contest. First-whistle is set for 7:00 PM on the FalconPlex.
