CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College Soccer team defeated Clarks Summit University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) to improve to 12-4 overall and a perfect 8-0 in conference competition.
"We had another solid team win today," stated Head Coach
Sarah Wolcott. "We worked together and communicated well."
The Falcons defense did not allow a single shot to be taken in the game, as they blasted 27 total shots and had 15 shots on goal. Cedar Crest also earned 13 corner kicks in the match and did not allow the Defenders to earn a corner at all.
Cedar Crest scored four first-half goals, and three of them came from junior
Daria Warner (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt).
Warner scored her first of the game in the 11th minute, that was assisted by sophomore
Kaitlyn Kozdron (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township), then scored again in the 20th minute to push the lead to 2-0.
Warner's third goal of the game was assisted by freshman
Morgan Love (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown High) in the 26th minute and would allow
Warner to break yet another school record. Her hat-trick goal, and 22nd of the season, made
Warner the record-holder for Goals in a Career with 50. Following that goal, sophomore
Brittney Dunleavy (Auburn, Pa./Blue Mountain) would beat the Defenders goalkeeper in the 43rd minute to put the Falcons up 4-0, heading into the break.
The Black and Yellow would strike quickly, just 28-seconds into the half, as freshman
Jordan Cicio (Wantage, N.J./High Point) would find the back of the net for her third of the year. Freshman
Madison VanKirk (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy) would score a goal in the match, which was assisted by
Dunleavy, coming in the 60th minute to extend the lead to 6-0 over Clarks Summit. Junior
Rebecca Fox (Olean, N.Y./Olean) would score the seventh and final goal of the contest in the 71st minute, that was again assisted by
Dunleavy, to put the game at the final score of 7-0 on Defender Field.
"Our players knew what they needed to do and they did it well," continued
Wolcott. "Ultimately, we're clicking really well and playing good soccer right now."
Freshman goalkeeper
Lauren Makely (Lake Grove/Sachem North) started her 16th game of the season and did not have to make a save in the victory. Her record mimics the team's as she improves to 12-4 and posted the eighth shutout of the season.
The Falcons will close out the regular season on Halloween Night, Thursday, October 31 when they host Cairn University in a rematch of the CSAC Semifinals. The match is set to begin on 7:00 PM under the lights on the FalconPlex.
