Game Recap: Soccer |

Soccer holds Bryn Athyn Scoreless for first CSAC Victory

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Soccer squad shutout Bryn Athyn College on the road, claiming their first victory in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Thursday evening.

"It was a great collective effort tonight," stated Head Coach Sarah Wolcott, "everyone contributed to that win."

The Falcons would only need 27 seconds to score the first goal, coming from freshman Madison
VanKirk for her second goal of the season, with the assist coming from senior Kim Rosano. After that, junior Adrianna Tennis (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) would score the next three goals, all coming in a 20-minute span. Her first goal of the game came in the 7th minute with the assist credited to freshman Jordan Cicio (Wantage, N.J./High Point). Tennis' second goal was in the 20th minute and had the help from sophomore Kaitlyn Kozdron (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township), who had the assist. The hat trick goal, and the 11 of the season, was a header scored  in the 27th minute, that was assisted by senior Kelsey Kehm (Trappe, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) who inserted a pass off of a corner kick. The Falcons would head into the intermission possessing a 4-0 lead.

The second half would see two more goals come the Black and Yellow, both coming from Kozdron, off of Penalty Kicks. Kozdron would bury her first goal in the 56th minute to extend the lead to 5-0. Then, just a minute later, Kozdron would beat the keeper for a second time, scoring her fourth goal of the year, on a penalty kick in the 57th minute to conclude scoring for the evening. Cedar Crest would hold the score line for the remainder of the game, defeating Bryn Athyn, 6-0.

"We were focused going into that match and determined to win," added Wolcott. "We came out of the gates strong and never let up."

Cedar Crest led in every statistical category, outshooting the Lions 13-4 in the first half and 6-4 in the second half for a total of 19-8. The Falcons recorded three corner kicks in each half for six total and held Bryn Athyn without a corner kick in the game.

Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Makely (Lake Grove/Sachem North) recorded her third shutout of the season and improved her overall record to 4-4. Makely made four saves, two in each half, out of the eight shots she faced in the victory.

"Adrianna tennis and Kim Rosano took control early and dictated the game for us. Super happy with not just the result but the work and effort behind it."

The Falcons will hit the road again for another CSAC game, when they travel to Wilson College on Saturday, October 5. Kick-off is scheduled for 11:00 AM at Kris's Meadow in Chambersburg.
