MAHWAH, N.J. --- The Cedar Crest College Volleyball program suffered a loss in straight sets to Ramapo College of New Jersey in the First-Round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday evening.
The Falcons battled back-and-forth in the game, falling by just two points in the first set, 23-25. The Falcons tied the game on seven separate occasions and even took the lead late in the set at 20-19 but would fall behind one set to none. The second set was no different, exchanging points one after another, with the Falcons biggest lead coming at 9-5. The Roadrunners and Falcons would continue to battle, reaching 11 ties in the set, before Ramapo claimed the second set and took a 2-0 lead by a score of 21-25. The third and final set of the match, the Roadrunners began to pull away from the Black and Yellow, as the Falcons dropped the third set 19-25.
Cedar Crest ended the three-set match with a total of 43 points off of 38 kills, 36 assists, three blocks, two aces and 83 digs. There were two Falcons that reached double-digits in kills, with senior
Nicole Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) recording 13 kills to lead the squad in her final match wearing the Black and Yellow. Following
Hill's performance was freshman
Kelsee Schouppe (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg), who downed 11 attacks for kills.
Junior
Tiffany Hoppes (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) earned a season-high of 30 digs in the match, as sophomores
Madison Flatt (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) and
Britney Rivera (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive), and freshman
Kayla Yasso (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood) also reached -double-figures.
Flatt finishing with 18 digs and
Rivera and
Yasso ended with 11 digs apiece.
Flatt earned a double-double in the final match of the season, with her 18 digs and 16 assists. Sophomore
Talia Watson (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) contributed 16 assists of her own and added a service ace.
Hoppes also earned a service ace in the match. Sophomore
Elyse Podgurski (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) was the team-leader in blocks with two, followed by
Hill and
Schpouppe, each contributing a block.
Cedar Crest concludes the 2019 season with a record of 15-11, after appearing in their first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship game and the program's first ECAC bid.
