Game Recap: Basketball |

Basketball's big first-half was not enough to hold off Penn State Berks

READING, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Basketball team played their best game of the season so far, but was unable to come out with the victory, falling to Penn State Berks 53-61 on Tuesday night.

The Falcons jumped out to a six-point lead, halfway through the first quarter at 8-2, but would trail the Nittany Lions 13-15 after the first 10 minutes. The Black and Yellow would take the lead with 8:02 until halftime, with their biggest lead coming at the end of the half, leading Penn State Berks 32-24 at the break.

A multitude of third-quarter turnovers contributed to the Falcons giving up the lead and would end the third-quarter down by three points behind the Nittany Lions, 34-37. Penn State Berks would extend their lead to six points before Cedar Crest cut the deficit to just two points with seven minutes to play. After that point, the Nittany Lions would pull away and hand the Falcons a 53-61 loss in non-conference action.

Two Falcons finished the game with double-figures in points, led by junior Makenzie Borger, who netted 19 points, five rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals. Senior Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) posted her third-straight double-digit performance in points, with 17 points tonight to go with four rebounds, a steal and an assist.
