Peters recorded career-high in non-conference loss to Alvernia

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Basketball team (0-5) was unable to hold on to their first-half lead, dropping a non-conference contest to Alvernia University (5-1), 66-40 on Tuesday night in Lees Gymnasium.
 
The Black and Yellow jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, then extended the lead to four-points at 9-5 before the Golden Wolves scored eight-straight points to put the Falcons in a four-point deficit after the first quarter, 9-14. The Falcons would find themselves down by a max of eight points in the second quarter, trailing 9-16 before creeping back and tying the game at 23-23 with 44-seconds remaining in the half. Cedar Crest would hit two free throws with 17-ticks on the clock and went into the locker room with a two-point lead, 25-23.
 
In the second half, Alvernia would come out strong and take control of the contest, holding the Falcons to single digits in the third and fourth quarters. Cedar Crest would surrender the lead, but get back within seven points before the Golden Wolves extended their lead to 33-45 after three quarters. The fourth quarter saw Alvernia push the lead further out of distance, as the Falcons suffered a 40-66 loss.
 
The Falcons were led by sophomore Amiyah Peters (Plainville, Conn./Plainville), who posted a career-high in points with 13. Peters was 3-for-5 behind the 3-point line and 5-of-9 from the floor, while adding four rebounds, three offensive, and an assist. Also finishing the game in double-figures was senior Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic), with 10 points off of two 3-pointers, a team-high six steals, five rebounds and three assists.
 
Freshman Megan Peifer (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) contributed five points, three steals, two rebounds and an assist while junior Mackenzie Borger (Kresgeville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) and freshman Kelly Reid (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) added four points each. Borger led the team with seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks as Reid recorded an assist. Senior Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic) and graduate student Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff) each made a bucket in the game. Cabrera grabbed six boards to go with two assists and steals, while Gregory blocked two shots and brought down three rebounds. Sophomore Tiesha Fortune-Saunders (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) rounds out the Falcons' lineup with a rebound and a steal in the game.
 
Up next, the Falcons will hit the road to open Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday, November 30 when they travel to Baltimore to take on Notre Dame of Maryland University. The game is set for 2:00 PM on Gator Court.
