ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Basketball (1-7, 1-2 CSAC) team earned their first win of the 2019-20 season with a double-digit victory over Cairn University (0-8, 0-3 CSAC) in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Cairn took a 5-8 lead halfway through the first quarter. Cedar Crest would knot the game at 10-10 before the Highlanders regained the lead and ended the quarter with a 12-15. The Black and Yellow trailed by as many as five points, but tied the game at 22-22, before taking the lead for the rest of the half, leading Cairn, 34-26 at the half.
Cedar Crest would hold the lead for the entirety of the third quarter, with their biggest lead ballooning to nine-points, and headed into the final quarter with a 53-46 lead. The Black and Yellow would extend the lead to double-digits and remain in-control, claiming their first win of the season with a 66-54 win over Cairn.
Four Falcons finished the game in double-figures, led by junior
Mackenzie Borger (Kresgeville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) who finished with a team-high 18 points, with seven rebounds, two blocks, an assist and a steal. Senior
Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) ended with 14 points, six rebounds and two steals in only 10 minutes of action, as freshman
Megan Peifer (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) posted 13 points to go with five rebounds. Sophomore
Amiyah Peters (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) played all 40 minutes of action and netted 11 points while contributing six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Grad-student
Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff) tossed in eight points for the Black and Yellow, grabbed seven boards, blocked two shots and a steal as senior
Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic) scored two points, added four rebounds, three assists and a steal. Freshman
Kelly Reid (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and sophomore
Tiesha Fortune-Saunders (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) each saw playing time, with
Reid recording a team-high four assists, three rebounds and two steals as
Fortune-Saunders brought down a rebound.
Cedar Crest will enjoy a break for the next couple of weeks, before returning home to host Lebanon Valley College on Monday, December 30. Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM inside of Lees Gymnasium.
