Gregory earns double-double in hard-fought loss to Centenary

Hackettstown, N.J. --- The Cedar Crest College Basketball team's strong start fell short in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) game versus Centenary University, 44-47 on Saturday afternoon at the Reeves Recreation Center.

"Another tough one," stated Head Coach Kristin Karat. "I told them this game was going to come down to two possessions and it did, but everyone stepped up today."

The Falcons are now 5-18 this season, with a CSAC record of 4-10, with just two games remaining in the 2018-19 campaign. A strong start had given the Black and Yellow a 12-8 lead after 10-minutes of action, but the Cyclones cut the deficit to just two points heading to the half, 23-21. Cedar Crest was held to six third-quarter points as Centenary scored 12 to put Cedar Crest behind, 29-33 heading into the final quarter. The Falcons outscored the Cyclones 15-14 in the fourth quarter, but was unable to overcome the deficit, ultimately falling 44-47.

"We need to make lay up and hit free throws, continued Coach Karat. "If we do that, we are going to be a great team."

Cedar Crest's leading scorer in the match was graduate student Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff ), who scored 13 points and 15 rebounds for a double-double. Gregory also blocked five shots to end the day. Freshman Amiyah Peters (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) and sophomore Natasha Barber (Dallas, TX/Ranchview) each scored 10 points, Peters brought down seven boards, team-high three assists and a steal while Barber contributed five rebounds, two steals and two helpers.

Junior Mackenzie Borger (Kresgeville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) saw her double-digit scoring streak come to an end today, scoring nine points with five rebounds, three blocks and an assist. "Mackenzie is seeing box and ones from here on out, we prepared for it and it showed," added Coach Karat. Sophomore Khnaue Robinson (Newark, N.J./Great Oaks Legacy Charter) rounded out the Falcon scorers with two points, three rebounds and two steals. Also contributing two steals and three rebounds was junior Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic).

"Right now we are a good team on the brink of being great. I'm proud of these kids for playing their best basketball in February," concluded Coach Karat.

The Falcons enter the final week of the regular season, hitting the road yet again to face Clarks Summit University on Wednesday, February 13. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM.
