Tennis clinches CSAC Playoff Berth with 8-1 victory over Bryn Athyn

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Tennis squad defeated Bryn Athyn College, 8-1, to clinch a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) playoff berth on the Falcon Tennis Courts Tuesday evening. The Falcons reach the CSAC Playoffs for the first time since 2010. Cedar Crest improves to 7-4 overall and 5-0 in conference action.
 
The doubles-flights would favor the Black and Yellow, 2-1, with the Lions claiming first-doubles, then the Falcons taking second and third doubles. Third-doubles would keep a clean slate, taking the point (8-0) with the duo of Ashley Wilkins (Rochester, N.H./Spaulding) and Mercedes Melo (Lehighton, Pa./Palmerton Area). Chelsea Tito (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) and Andrea Abdale (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast ) suffered the lone loss in the match, falling (4-8) to the Lions at first-doubles. The second-doubles pair would give the Black and Yellow the lead and Yomari Salvador-Rivera (Reading, Pa./Reading Senior) and Maya Narasimhan (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) would give the Falcons the lead that they would not relinquish the rest of the match.
 
Entering singles-play, Delaney Robbins (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) would earn her point with a (6-1, 6-0) victory, followed by Tito at fifth-singles taking the match (6-0, 6-1). Melo would win the clinching point with her (7-5, 6-1) victory at first-singles as Narasimhan would take care of her opponent at second-singles with a (6-1, 6-2) win. Abdale won her match at fourth-singles (6-2, 6-2) and then Salvador-Rivera would claim the eighth and final point of the match, (6-3, 6-4) to lead the Falcons to a 8-1 win.
 
The Falcons next match will be next Tuesday, April 23 when they will play the make-up match against Rosemont College. The match is slated to begin at 3:30 on Falcon Tennis Courts.
