Johnson nets goal in Field Hockey's loss to DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest Field Hockey squad dropped a non-conference contest 4-1 to DeSales University on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs struck first with a goal in the 5th minute of the game, but the Falcons would tie the game at 1-1 off of a rebound shot from sophomore Samantha Johnson (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) put in the first goal of Cedar Crest's season. DeSales would put three more goals into the back of the cage, one in each of the remaining quarters to ultimately defeat the Falcons 4-1.

Cedar Crest would be outshot 8-26 in the match, but all eight of the Falcons shots went on the Bulldogs goalkeeper. DeSales would earn 12 penalty corners in the contest compared to the five that Cedar Crest earned. Sophomore Serena Shuler (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) led the team with 3 shots on goal, followed by senior Makenzie Kistler (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton) with two that were put on the netminder. Three other Falcons, junior Alexandra Arabio (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor ), freshman Amber Cieri (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) and the goal-scorer Johnson got off one shot each on the DeSales goalkeeper.

Senior Cassandra Reijgers (Hollis, N.H./Hollis Brookline) got the start in cage this afternoon, facing 16 shots on goal, making 12 saves and received the loss in the decision.

The Falcons will have their home opener this coming Wednesday, September 4 when they welcome Marywood University. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM on the FalconPlex.
