Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Cieri and Marone score collegiate-first's in 4-2 loss to Wilkes

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest Field Hockey team had two Falcons score their first-collegiate goals tonight, but they were not enough to lift them past Wilkes University on Wednesday evening at the FalconPlex.

The Falcons, now (0-5) on the year, dropped a non-conference game to the Colonels of Wilkes University after Wilkes got on the board in the 8th minute to jump out to a 1-0 lead after the first quarter. The Colonels would score two more times in the second quarter, with the final goal of the half coming with just 19 seconds remaining, giving Wilkes a 3-0 lead at the break.

Cedar Crest came out in the third quarter with something to prove and score twice to cut the deficit to just one. Scoring first was freshman Kiley Marone (Mohrsville, PA/Tulpehocken High School), getting a shot past the Colonels keeper on her own for her first-goal wearing the Black and Yellow. Freshman Amber Cieri (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) would score her first-collegiate goal in the 45th minute that was assisted by junior Brice Gardner (Gardners, Pa./Biglerville ) off of a penalty corner. Wilkes would add another goal in the 54th minute to solidify the victory and hand the Falcons a 4-2 loss.

Starting in the cage for Cedar Crest was senior Cassandra Reijger, making her fourth start of the season, faced 21 shots on goal and made a season-high 17 saves. Reijgers received the loss in the decision, putting her record at 0-4.

The Falcons took 11 shots to the Colonels 25, with eight of their shots going on cage as Wilkes fired 21 on goal. Wilkes also earned more penalty corners in the contest, both squad finishing in double-figures at 18-10.

Up next, Cedar Crest will have a pair of road-games in New York this weekend. They will first head to Wells College for a 11:00 AM game on Saturday, September 14, then travel to the College of Brockport for a game on Sunday, September 15 at 12:00 PM.
