Tennis nets her seventh goal as Falcons suffer loss to Neumann

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Soccer program suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of Neumann University on Tuesday evening at the FalconPlex.

"Tough loss tonight," stated Head Coach Sarah Wolcott, "We worked really hard and unfortunately the ball didn't roll our way. Soccer is a very unforgiving sport, and it wasn't forgiving at all tonight for us."

The Falcons fall to 3-4 on the year after the Knights got on the board with two goals in the first 12 minutes. Cedar Crest would cut the deficit in half when a foul occurred in the 18-yard box and a yellow card was given to the Knights goalkeeper. That set up a Penalty Kick for junior Adrianna Tennis (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove), who scored her team-leading seventh goal of the year, and would conclude scoring for the first half, putting the score at 2-1. Neumann would add an insurance goal in the 58th minute to solidify the final score at 3-1.

"We made a few mistakes and we paid for them. We had a lot of opportunities and put together some great attacking pieces but just couldn't quite find the back of the net," continued Coach Wolcott. "Daria Warner (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt), Madison VanKirk (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy), and Brittney Dunleavy (Auburn, Pa./Blue Mountain) were so vital in our attack and they made so many things happen. Kim Rosano and Kara Brownlie (Southampton, Pa./Abington Friends School) really stepped up defensively for us."

Freshman Lauren Makely (Lake Grove/Sachem North) would make five saves on the eight shots she faced in her seventh start in goal. Makely would earn the loss in the decision, matching the Falcons record of 3-4.

Cedar Crest was outshot 12-15 in the match, taking four shots in the first and eight in the second half, with eight shots going on the Knight goalkeeper. The Black and Yellow earned four Corners in the contest, with three coming in the second half, compared to the nine total that Neumann was rewarded.

"Again, I'm happy with how we played tonight. Soccer is 90 minutes and we took just a couple moments off, and Neumann is a good team and they made us pay," concluded Coach Wolcott.

The Falcons will have 12 days until their next contest, when they host the Pratt Institute Cannoneers to the FalconPlex to close out Homecoming festivities. The non-conference match is scheduled for Sunday, September 29 at 1:00 PM.
