Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey falls to Moravian in 1-0 Shootout loss

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Field Hockey team fell to Moravian College, 1-0, in a shootout at the FalconPlex on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons, now 2-6 this season, needed more than just four quarters to decide this game. After 60 minutes, the Falcons and Greyhounds were both scoreless, with Cedar Crest taking nine shots on goal and Moravian taking just six shots on goal. We would go into overtime, where both squad would fire off two shots on goal each, but all would be saved by the goalkeepers and we would need another overtime to decide the winner. During the second overtime period, the Falcons and Hounds attempted three shots each that were saved, meaning that a shootout was on the horizon.

Moravian was selected to shoot first, and the Cedar Crest keeper, Cassandra Reijgers (Hollis, N.H./Hollis Brookline), would save the first attempt. Senior Mackenzie Kistler was first-up for the Black and Yellow, where she was taken down in the circle and was unable to get a clean shot off. The Greyhounds would score on their second attempt to take a 1-0 lead in the shootout. Freshman Kiley Marone (Mohrsville, PA/Tulpehocken High School), sophomore Serena Shuler (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) and freshman Amber Cieri (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) were unable to get their shootout shots past the Greyhounds' goalkeeper, which led the Moravian scoring on their fifth attempt to defeat the Falcons 1-0 in a shootout.

Reijgers faced 14 shots in the contest, with 11 going on goal and made all 11 saves, but would ultimately receive the loss in the decision.  Cedar Crest more than doubled the amount of penalty corners than Moravian earned, with the Black and Yellow tallying 16 corners to the Greyhounds' seven.

The Falcons return to action on Wednesday, September 25 when they head to Misericordia University to start a three-game road trip. First-whistle is scheduled for 7:00 PM on Mangelsdorf Field at the Anderson Athletic Complex
