ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College Basketball squad (3-11, 2-5 CSAC) was unable to hold on to their first half lead, falling to Rosemont College (4-9, 2-4 CSAC) 67-81 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action at Alumnae Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons jumped out to a big lead, which led to a big first quarter. Cedar Crest scored the first seven points before Rosemont got on the board, 7-3, and reached their biggest lead at 13 points, 26-13. The Black and Yellow would end the first quarter with a 26-19 lead. The Ravens would cut the lead down to just two points, 26-24, but the Falcons would balloon the lead back to double-figures for three-plus minutes. Winding down to the final few minutes, Rosemont would put a run together, and would cut the deficit down to just one point, with Cedar Crest leading 39-38 at the half.
Coming out of the break, the Falcons and Ravens would tie at 41-41 at the 8:23 mark in the third before Rosemont scored 15-straight points. The Black and Yellow would battle back to within seven points, 49-56, but would find themselves behind by 11 by the end of the third quarter, 51-62. For the entirety of the fourth quarter, Cedar Crest would trail the Ravens by double-figures and ultimately fell to Rosemont, 67-81.
For the second time this week, freshman
Ashley Wilson (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) would put together a 30+ point performance. Today,
Wilson went 13-16 (81%) from the field and 10-13 (77%) from beyond the 3-point line and 1-1 from the foul line, all for a season-high 37 points. Also ending the game in double-digits was senior
Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic), who recorded 11 points and four rebounds for the Black and Yellow.
Three Falcons each tossed in four points apiece, senior
Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic), freshman
Megan Peifer (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly), and graduate student
Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff).
Cabrera added five rebounds and an assist as
Peifer grabbed four boards, two assists and a steal.
Gregory ended with team-highs with six rebounds and three blocked shots, while also contributing two assists and a steal. Junior
Mackenzie Borger (Kresgeville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) and sophomore
Tiesha Fortune-Saunders (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) both scored a basket for two points and a rebound.
Borger also had an assist credited to her name.
Cedar Crest returns to Lees Gymnasium on Wednesday, January 15 when they host the College of Saint Elizabeth (9-4, 6-1 CSAC) in a CSAC contest. The game is slated for 7:00 PM in Allentown.
