CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College Basketball program (3-13, 2-7 CSAC) suffered a 13-point loss, 43-56 to Clarks Summit University (11-4, 7-2 CSAC) in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action at Huckaby Gym on Friday night.
In the opening quarter both squads held each other to single digits, with the Falcons ahead by two, 8-6 after 10 minutes of play. The Defenders would score eight-straight points to start the second quarter before Cedar Crest would convert a layup in the paint with 4:09 in the half. The Falcons would regain the lead with 16-seconds left to play, but Clarks Summit hit a jumper with seven-seconds remaining to tie the contest at 18-18 heading into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Clarks Summit would rally off 10-straight points, but Cedar Crest would cut that lead in half with 5:35 left in the third quarter, 23-28. The Defenders would extend the lead to double-digits, which held for the remainder of the third, with the Falcons trailing 27-41. The Black and Yellow would get back within single-digits later on in the fourth quarter, but Clarks Summit would finish the game with five-consecutive points to close out the game and hand Cedar Crest a 43-56 loss.
Freshman
Kelly Reid (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) ended the night scoring in double-figures, who scored eight points from the field and went 2-2 from the foul line. She also grabbed seven rebounds, had two assists and a steal. Two Falcons both finished with eight points apiece, freshman
Ashley Wilson (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) and graduate student
Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff).
Wilson added four rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot as
Gregory brought down three rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Senior
Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) contributed six points for the Black and Yellow, with four boards, two assists and a steal while freshman
Megan Peifer (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) led the Falcons with a career-high 14 rebounds, a steal and an assist. Senior
Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic) and junior
Mackenzie Borger (Kresgeville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) round out the Cedar Crest scorers,
Cabrera contributing four points, three rebounds and three assists, as
Borger made one basket for two points, three boards, two assists and a block.
The Falcons will have over a full week before they play their next contest on Saturday, January 25 for a CSAC game against Notre Dame of Maryland University (10-5, 7-2 CSAC). Tip-off is slated for 2:00 PM in Lees Gymnasium.
