BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College Basketball team (4-14, 3-8 CSAC) kicked off their three-game road trip with a 65-53 victory over Bryn Athyn College (4-14, 3-8 CSAC) in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action Wednesday evening at the Asplundh Field House.
The Falcons went back-and-forth with Bryn Athyn in the first quarter, leading by at most four points before the Lions took a five point lead after 10 minutes, 16-21. The Black and Yellow would find a way to tie the contest in the second quarter, putting up 20 points in the quarter, heading into the half tied at 36-36.
A low scoring quarter coming out of halftime for both squads, but the Falcons edged Bryn Athyn by a point, leading 47-46 after three quarters of play. Cedar Crest pulled away from the Lions in the fourth quarter, holding Bryn Athyn to single-digits, outscoring them 18-7, which gave Cedar Crest a conference victory, 65-53.
Three Falcons reached double-figures in the game, led by junior
Mackenzie Borger (Kresgeville, Pa./Pleasant Valley), who put together a season-high 21 points.
Borger was 8-11 (73%) from the floor, 1-2 (50%) from long-distance and perfect 4-4 (100%), to go along with her two blocked shots, two rebounds, an assist and a steal. Freshman
Ashley Wilson (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) ended the night with 13 points, with 10 of her points coming in the fourth quarter, while also contributing eight rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal.
Senior
Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) recorded her third double-double of the season, with 12 points and team-high 13 rebounds.
Cabrera also led the Black and Yellow with four assists and two steals. Freshman
Kelly Reid (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) tallied nine points, five rebounds and three assists while senior
Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic) scored eight points in just 13 minutes of action, going 4-5 (80%) from the field, and grabbed two rebounds. Rounding out the scorers for the Falcons was
Megan Peifer (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly), making the only shot she took, and brought down five rebounds.
The Falcons remain on the road, as they travel to Langhorne on Saturday, February 1 for a CSAC contest against Cairn University (1-18, 1-10 CSAC). Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM in the Mason Activity Center as the Highlanders celebrate their Senior Day.
