MORRISTOWN, NJ – The Cedar Crest College Basketball squad (6-18, 5-12 CSAC) suffered a 10-point Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) loss to the College of Saint Elizabeth (18-5, 15-2 CSAC) in their final road game of the 2019-2020 season on Wednesday evening.
The Falcons started off the game hot, scoring the first six points of the game and led 10-3 before the Eagles scored eight unanswered points to make the game 10-11 at the midway point of the quarter. The lead would go back-and-forth for the next couple of possessions, but Saint Elizabeth would take a three-point lead into the second quarter, 14-17, even after the Falcons shot 53% (7-13) from the field. The Black and Yellow were held to single digits in the second quarter, where the Eagles put up 20 points and had the Falcons trailing 22-37 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Cedar Crest managed to hold Saint Elizabeth to just 12 points, but the Falcons netted nine points of their own, trailing by 18 points, 31-49, after three quarters of play. The Black and Yellow outscored the Eagles 21-13 in the final quarter, attempting to make a late run, but was only able to get the cut the deficit to 10 points, as the Falcons fell by a final score of 52-62 in Saint Joseph's Gym.
Two Falcons reached double-digits, led by junior
Mackenzie Borger (Kresgeville, Pa./Pleasant Valley), who recorded 13 points, four rebounds, an assist and a blocked shot. Senior
Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) was the final Falcon in double-figures with 12 points, four boards, an assist, a blocked shot and a steal. Graduate student
Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff) was a basket shy of making to the ten-point mark, finishing with eight points, a team-high six rebounds, two blocks, a steal and an assist to end the night.
Freshman
Ashley Wilson (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) contributed six points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals while senior
Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic) scored four points to go with five rebounds, an assist and a steal. Three Falcons; freshmen
Kelly Reid (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan),
Megan Peifer (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly), and sophomore
Amiyah Peters (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) each finished with three points apiece.
Reid led the Black and Yellow with a career-high seven assists, five rebounds and three steals as
Peifer earned a block and a steal.
Peters concluded the night with four boards and an assist the round off the scoring Falcons'.
Cedar Crest will return home to conclude their 2019-20 season on Saturday, February 22, as they honor their seniors on Senior Day. The Falcons host Clarks Summit University at 2:00 PM in Lees Gymnasium.
