ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College Lacrosse team defeats Alfred University, 12-2 in the Falcon's home opener on the FalconPlex in their first game of the 2020 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Cedar Crest held possession for the majority of the game, with Falcon's senior
Isabella Savino (Middletown, DE/Middletown) starting the first half off with 3 unassisted goals in a row. Junior
Rhica-May Austin (Franklin, NJ/North Brunswick Township) netted 3 unassisted goals for the Black and Yellow directly after to keep Alfred off the board. The Saxon's senior Hannah McNamara scored the lone goal in the first half for Alfred from a free-position shot attempt.
Savino would finish the half with 1 more goal, along with her teammate, first year
Kailyn Jones (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly).
Entering the second half, the Falcons sophomore midfielder
Sydney Heathcott (Newburgh, Ind./Castle High) netted a quick goal off of
Savino's beautiful assist pass. Alfred would strike one last time with a goal from Bella Ehms for the Saxon's. Cedar Crest finished off their season home opener win with 3 more goals, one coming from
Savino with an assist from
Heathcott, and the final two goals from
Heathcott as well.
THE KEEPERS:
Cedar Crest's junior goalkeeper
Allison Churchill (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) registered 1 save with 2 goals against to pick up the win, while Alfred's senior Paige Rowlee posted 13 saves with 12 goals against in the loss.
TEAM STATS:
The Falcons held the lead in shots (38-9) and ground balls (22-8), along with posting a (14-2) advantage in draw controls.
LEADERS – CEDAR CREST:
- Senior Isabella Savino tallied 5 goals and an assist with 4 ground balls, 4 draw controls, and 9 caused turnovers.
- Junior Rhica-May Austin added 3 goals, 2 draw controls, and 3 ground balls.
- Sydney Heathcott contributed 3 goals, 1 ground ball, 6 draw controls, and 3 caused turnovers
