ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College Basketball program (5-16, 4-10 CSAC) suffered a 55-69 loss to Centenary University (12-8, 8-6 CSAC) in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday afternoon in Lees Gymnasium.
The Falcons came out strong in the first quarter, shooting over 50% from the floor, and held the Cyclones to single digits in the opening period. Cedar Crest would take a 21-9 lead into the second quarter, leading by as much as 16 points, but struggled to score in the second quarter, as both squads were tied at 27-27 after 20 minutes of play.
The Cyclones and Falcons each shot 33% from the floor in the third quarter, but Centenary would go 9-12 (75%) from the foul line, which put the Black and Yellow down by six points heading into the fourth quarter. Cedar Crest found themselves down by double-digits, but the Falcons continued to fight back, cutting the deficit to just single-digits at the five-minute mark. Unfortunately, the Falcons were unable to rally a comeback and dropped the contest 55-69.
Senior
Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) led the Falcons in three different categories, putting together a 22-point performance, to go with a team-high eight rebounds and five assists.
Cabrera also recorded two blocked shots and a steal while going 8-9 (89%) from the foul line. The next closest Falcon scorer was graduate student
Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff), who tallied eight points, seven rebounds, a team-high three blocks and a steal.
Senior
Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic) tallied seven points in the loss, grabbing three boards, two steals, a block and an assist, while freshmen
Ashley Wilson (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) and
Kelly Reid (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) each contributed six points each.
Wilson, who picked up four fouls in the first half, added two steals and two rebounds as
Reid also grabbed two boards to go with three steals and two assists. Ending the game with five points was freshman
Megan Peifer (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly), who hit a three-pointer and a long jump shot for her five points, while recording three rebounds and three steals. Sophomore
Tinesha Fortune-Saunders (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) etched her name in the scorer's column after hitting a free throw in the fourth quarter to round out the Cedar Crest scorers.
Up next, the Falcons will host Wilson College (2-17, 1-13 CSAC) on Wednesday, February 12, with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 PM in Lees Gymnasium.
