ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College Softball squad (3-5) played a non-conference game against local Muhlenberg College (6-2) by a score of 4-9 at Cedarcreek Field on Thursday evening.
The Falcons jumped out to a 1-0 lead over the Mules in the top of the 2nd-inning, but Muhlenberg put three runs on board in the bottom of the 3rd-inning to take a 1-3 lead. Cedar Crest would even the game up 3-3 with a two-run triple in the top half of the 4th-inning, then the Mules countered with three more runs to double the deficit to 3-6.
The Black and Yellow were able to get one more run across the plate in the 5th-inning, putting the score at 4-6 before the Mules scored three runs in their third-consecutive inning, reaching the final score of 4-9.
Cedar Crest had two Falcons record two hits each, sophomore
Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge) and freshman
Renee Snyder (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), totaling four of the seven hits in the game. Both
VanBuskirk and
Snyder each recorded a double and a base hit in their 2-for-4 performances.
Snyder also recorded a walk, drove in an RBI and scored once. Juniors
Patricia Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) and
Danielle Krispin (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock), and freshman
Rachel Savini (Wilmington, DE/Delaware Military Academy) went 1-for-3 in the game.
Krispin reached base on a triple that drove in two runs and a walk, as
Dalton reached on a base hit and a walk as well.
Freshman
Skyler Bilous (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) got the start in the circle for the Black and Yellow, throwing to 18 batters in 3.0 innings of work. She gave up six earned runs on five hits and struck out two batters. Senior
Breanna Young (Easton, PA /Wilson Area) entered in relief, pitching 3.0 innings and faced 16 batters while giving up three earned runs.
Bilous received the loss in the decision, putting her overall record at 1-3.
The Falcons second game of the doubleheader was halted, due to darkness, trailing 3-6, heading into the bottom of the 4th-inning. The game will be made up at a time to be determined.
