ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College soccer team picked up a 4-0 victory over Keystone College on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play at the FalconPlex.
"We had a beautiful day for some Falcon soccer honoring our grad students," said Interim Head Coach
Sam Busillo. "Playing against a disciplined, tight defense is no easy feat, but we found a way to get it done. I'm happy that we had no let-ups and maintained a clean slate. We are excited to continue pushing forward with the season."
Four players found the back of the net for the Falcons on the day. Sophomore
Olivia Kelly (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) finished with a goal and an assist to set the pace while freshman
MacKayla Reed (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area Senior), graduate student
Adrianna Tennis (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove), and
Taylor Wolf (Towsend, De./Middletown) each added markers.
Reed put the Falcons on the scoreboard in the 41st minute. The ball was sent into the box, which connected with freshman
Abril Riley (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman). The play continued and the ball found its way to Reed. Reed's first two shots was stopped by freshman goalkeeper Annie Metzger, and eventually found the back of the net on the third chance to put Cedar Crest up 1-0.
The Falcons' registered their three goals in the second half. Graduate student
Adrianna Tennis (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) recorded an unassisted marker in the 48th minute to push the score to 2-0.
Junior
Taylor Wolf (Towsend, De./Middletown) deposited a header in the back of the net off a corner kick from sophomore
Olivia Kelly (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) in the 62
nd minute.
Kelly was involved in the action again in the 72
nd minute when she netted her first goal of the season, which was assisted by freshman
Grace Nieman (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) as the match ended in the 4-0 final.
Cedar Crest outshot Keystone 54-0 in the contest. Junior goalkeeper
Lauren Makely (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) didn't face a shot while Metzger finished with 25 saves for the Giants.
Prior to the match, the Falcons honored its four graduate students—
Daria Warner (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt),
Erika D'Angelo (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial), Tennis, and
Avery Huston (Levittown, Pa./Bucks County Technical) in a special ceremony.
Cedar Crest (7-0-1 overall, 2-0-0 CSAC) will welcome in Bryn Athyn College for a conference contest on Tuesday, October 5 at 6:00 p.m.
