ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Bryn Athyn College netted the game's only goal towards the end of the first half en route to a 1-0 victory over Cedar Crest College on Tuesday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) women's soccer action at the FalconPlex.
"This is a tough one," said Interim Head Coach
Sam Busillo. "We definitely feel it as a team. It stings. We played good soccer, winning first and second balls, making contact on every corner. We were dangerous in many moments and controlled a lot of play. Unfortunately, that's how soccer works sometimes. Bryn Athyn's squad was effective at keeping us from finding the back of the net. We're going to work past this, use it as fuel, and find our little moments to get it done. It's a minor setback. We have a lot of season left."
Senior Ashley Rivera (Southampton, Pa.) scored in the 45th minute to supply the lone goal for the Lions, who improved to 4-2-2 overall (3-0-1 CSAC). Freshman Gianna Juliano (Philadelphia, Pa.) did her part in goal by making eight saves in goal to preserve the shutout.
Bryn Athyn jumped in front in the late stages of the first half after Rivera found the ball off a free kick. She maneuvered around a Falcon defender and put a shot high over the reach of junior goalkeeper
Lauren Makely (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) for her eighth tally of the season and the 1-0 lead for the Lions.
Makely finished with four saves against seven shots to lead Cedar Crest.
Cedar Crest (7-1-1 overall, 2-1-0 CSAC) will look to rebound on Saturday, October 9 at Saint Elizabeth University at 1:00 p.m.
