Field Hockey Downs NDMU in Regular Season Home Finale

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team secured a 6-0 win over Notre Dame of Maryland University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play on Saturday afternoon at the FalconPlex on Homecoming Weekend.

Following a scoreless first quarter, the Falcons struck for three goals in the second. Freshman Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) shot in a rebound in front of the cage to put Cedar Crest on the board in the 21st minute. Junior Amber Cieri (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) was credited with the assist.

Jackson netted the second of the game when freshman Karleigh Hobel (Kempton, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) set up the opportunity off a corner. Hobel found Jackson and put a shot right side past Gators' sophomore goalkeeper Jensen Armstrong (Culpeper, Va.) for the 2-0 lead. Junior Kiley Marone (Mohrsville, PA/Tulpehocken High School) capped the scoring in the stanza when she one-timed a shot to the left side of the cage for the marker. Hobel picked up the helper, her second of the game.

Marone tacked on her second of the game in the 39th minute when she shot right in front Armstrong. Hobel registered the assist as the Falcons went up 4-0. Cieri got in the goal column in the 45th minute when junior Alexandra Infante (Stowe, Vt./Stowe High) found Cieri off a corner and the junior midfielder put it home for the 5-0 advantage.

Infante netted the final goal of the contest for Cedar Crest when she shot high over Armstrong in the final minute of play for the 6-0 final. Marone was credited with the helper.

Freshman goalkeeper Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) recorded six saves in the shutout. Armstrong converted six stops in the loss.

Cedar Crest (6-8 overall, 4-2 CSAC) will travel to Immaculata University on Wednesday, October 27 for its non-conference finale. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
