IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team closed out non-conference play with a 3-1 victory over Immaculata University on Thursday night at Draper Walsh Stadium.
The Mighty Macs started the scoring late in the first quarter on a goal by senior Gabby Greco (Bensalem, Pa.) to put Immaculata up 1-0, but that's all they would get as the Falcons held them scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
Cedar Crest knotted the game in the second quarter when sophomore
Mira Carver (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) found junior
Kiley Marone (Mohrsville, PA/Tulpehocken High School) in the 18
th minute for the equalizer.
The Falcons pulled away for good when Marone netted her second of the game, this time off an assist from classmate
Amber Cieri (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) to give Cedar Crest a 2-1 advantage.
The Falcons tacked on an insurance tally nearly three minutes later as freshman
Viktoriya Georgieva (Effort, Pa./Plesant Valley) found the back of the cage, with the helper going to classmate
Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon), as the game ended in the 3-1 final.
Freshman goalkeeper
Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) registered four saves in the win for Cedar Crest while freshman Julia Levase (Claymont, Del.) made three saves in the setback for the Mighty Macs.
The Falcons outshot Immaculata, 13-11, and had eight penalty corners to the Mighty Macs' six.
