Field Hockey Closes Regular Season with Win Over Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team defeated Centenary University (N.J.) in a 4-1 final in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Reeves Field in the regular season finale for both squads.

The Falcons scored three straight goals en route to the victory.

Junior Amber Cieri (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) netted the lone goal of the opening quarter just 37 seconds in to give Cedar Crest the early 1-0 advantage. Classmate Kiley Marone (Mohrsville, PA/Tulpehocken High School) was credited with the assist on the marker.

Cedar Crest tacked on two more in the second to build the 3-0 lead. Junior Emily Demarest (Hamburg, N.J./Vernon Township) found the back of the cage off a helper from Cieri in the 21st minute, while Marone found freshman Karleigh Hobel (Kempton, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) for her fourth goal of the season in the final minute of the stanza.

The teams traded goals in the third for the 4-1 final. The Cyclones got their goal from junior Michaela Thiessen (Augusta, N.J.) with the helper being credited to sophomore Hailey Rowe (Belvidere, N.J.) in the 33rd minute. Marone closed out the scoring in the 42nd minute. The assist was awarded to freshman Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon).

Freshman goalkeeper Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) earned the win in the cage for the Falcons and was credited with two saves. Centenary's junior goalkeeper Jenyfer Pereira (Bloxom, Va.) made 11 saves in the setback.

Cedar Crest dominated the shot column, 20-4, along with penalty corners, 22-8.
