CSAC Semifinals: Field Hockey Moves Onto CSAC Championship Game With OT Win

LA PLUME, Pa. – The No. 3 seed Cedar Crest College field hockey team moves into the Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament Championship Game after edging Keystone College in a 3-2 overtime victory in the semifinals on Wednesday afternoon.

After a scoreless opening quarter, the Falcons got out to a 2-0 advantage on back-to-back goals from junior Kiley Marone (Mohrsville, PA/Tulpehocken High School) in the 22nd and 24th minutes. With the two markers, she set the program's single season goals record with 17.

The Giants chipped away at the Falcons' lead, adding a single tally in the third and fourth stanza. Sophomore Maria Tomada (Buenos Aires, Argentina) cut the deficit to one on a 39th minute goal and freshman Jessica Santiago (Allentown, Pa.) pulled Keystone even with the equalizer in the 55th minute to make the score, 2-2.

Cedar Crest recorded the golden goal 4:22 into the overtime period with the game-winner being credited to junior Amber Cieri (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh). Freshman Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) was credited with the assist.

Freshman goalkeeper Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) made eight stops in the win for the Falcons while Keystone's sophomore goalkeeper Casey Stratton (Elicott City, Md.) converted 11 saves in the loss.

Cedar Crest outshot the Giants, 25-17, while the Falcons had 25 penalty corners to Keystone's nine.

Cedar Crest (9-8 overall) advance to the program's first CSAC Championship Game and will square off against No. 1 seed Wilson College on Saturday, November 6 at 1:00 p.m. The contest will take place at Wilson.
